Kim’s Birth Video – 11 minutes
$80 from Injoy: http://www.injoyvideos.com/IJBirthLibrary.cfm?id=23
Caucasian. Husband. Mom’s mom. Friend. Average age.
Took Lamaze classes, wrote birth plan
Had planned epidural, but realized during class, decided if it’s not necessary, might not have one: will remain open-minded. (Opening shows her in bathtub – not seen during video)
After birthing class, partner felt more able to be participatory
On due date, SROM at 8 am. Went in right away for prostaglandins, because fresh in the morning.
11 am – counted variable hee-blow. Eye contact. Friend behind her, massaging. Four hees, then one hee… in bed, sitting in bed. Sitting in rocking chair
4 pm – 6 cm. Lying on side. Hasn’t eaten all day. Nauseous. In hospital gown.
7:15 pm – ready to push (11 hours after her water broke)
In bra.
Continue using breathing techniques, upright positions
9:15 – counting to ten pushing. Holding breath. No urge to push.
On back. Oxygen. Monitor on belly.
Hard to keep my eyes open – it was one of the ways I’d found to relax.
Mirror during pushing
Perineal view with massage
Making some noise.
Dad brings baby out with doctor’s support
Slimy baby up on blanket on belly, some crying when suctioned
10:50 8 lbs
Dad talks about how it was to deliver – enormously fulfilling
At breast (can’t see latch). Nursed for a half hour.
Overall mood: She’s looking serious/stern and pained, quiet and in control with counted breathing and eye contact.
Janelle’s summary. Not what I’m looking for. Not moving enough, too in control, too much emphasis on breathing techniques as only method… not a lot of magic to it.
